Personal development author, speaker and entrepreneur Nido Qubein discusses how life skills– traditionally not taught in a typical university setting– prepares the next generation for a competitive world. As the president of High Point University, Qubein is taking a holistic approach to higher education, focusing on practical lessons such as presentation skills, fiscal literacy and communication skills.
To learn more about how Nido Qubein turned a little-known liberal arts college into one of the nation’s top ranked schools, read our feature from the September 2012 issue of SUCCESS.

We can,or should, be teaching these skills to our high school students. So many of them lack basic life skills and could benefit greatly from classes such as this.

I enjoyed this clip and have now read about the course on the High Point website. Perhaps his course could be recorded like “The Great Courses”" and sold. Since I am in my 40′s still trying to figure these things out I would be a willing buyer! My university had nothing like this and in fact was more oriented towards flunking freshman out then teaching these skills. As time progressed and I survived the freshman cut I learned some of these skills but still struggle with them in middle age. The concept of giving young people these skills within the framework of a University education is fantastic. If I were 18 again this university would be my first choice for an education. Hopefully this University on this path and my daughter will have a chance at it in 12 years. Tanks Nido for turning your attention towards higher education. It is in sore need of reform of this nature.

This is one of my very favorite presentations in the success series. I find the interview on the Magazine CD one of the best as well. Not only for concrete pointers but genuine inspiration… his ‘anyone can do it if they work hard enough’ ethos is really motivating. I have also had the opportunity to hear Nido speak in person. Again, it was a riveting speech that garnered a standing ovation. Further, ‘everyone loves a well-dressed man,’ and that is certainly Nido. He is stylish and has style. A great role model.

Another great talk by Mr. Qubein. When I taught sixth grade years ago, I gave my students a similar message: you can do whatever you want! We tend to forget that as we age and I appreciate the reminders such as this video! Thanks, Darren!
