This is absolutely true. The irony of clearly making this trade-off decision is that it makes it much easier to creatively and proactively plan in a way that results in a great home life and a great career. The danger comes when a clear decision is not made and one is simply reacting to circumstances–that’s how you get off track (in my humble opinion).

Interesting point, Len. I agree with you that it is easier when we can afford the creative/proactive approach. Sounds like you might also agree that we can’t always have it that way. Sometimes life hands us some circumstances that require a reactive response. In those circumstances, I think the right reaction may depend upon prior experience of learning how to make a proper judgment call, albeit a reactive one.
